Part Time Counselling : Certificate in Counselling Concepts Level 2 Is this course for you? This course is for those who wish to return to study, seek a career change, undertake voluntary work, enhance career prospects through extra qualifications or train as professional counsellors. We are able to take people of 16 years or over, however, due to the nature of the course an ability to reflect and draw on life experiences may be of benefit. Students will need to understand the demanding and personal nature of the course. How long is the course? This is a ten week course which runs each term. Day time or evening options are available with each session lasting three hours. When you will be attending. Morning option: 9.30am to 12.30pm Evening option: 6.00pm to 9.00pm The next available start date for the course is:April: Monday 120410 (evening only) and Tuesday 130410 (morning and evening). Please note that regular and punctual attendance is a course requirement and final qualification may be withheld if attendance is below 80%. When does the course start? By the end of this course the candidates should be able to: Enhance and improve their verbal and written communication skills. Emphasis will be given to working in groups and teams Have a realistic understanding of the demanding nature of vocational training, especially in counsellor skills training Have experienced work in an experimental manner that will include a high element of personal growth work, developing further self-confidence and self-esteem Have the necessary basis to move into the next level of counsellor training Utilise knowledge in such a way as to help directly in the world of work The course covers the following areas: What is counselling? The importance of self development A look at counselling and helping skills Ethical and professional issues in the counselling process Referral issues Prejudice, oppression and counselling An introduction to counselling theory Non-verbal communication Skills practice Is work experience a necessary part of the course? No, but you will receive details of organisations where volunteers with counselling skills are recruited. How will you be assessed? Three units of study are assessed. Two of these are assessed by your tutor. You will be required to write a 1500 word essay to illustrate your learning whilst on the course. Students are encouraged to keep a personal journal and your tutor will offer advice and guidance in relation to all subjects taught on the course. Regular attendance is needed in order to meet the necessary requirements to gain your award. What qualification will you achieve? You will be given an ABC Certificate In Counselling Concepts What can this course lead to? Successful completion of this course will provide students with one of the entrance requirements for Certificate in Counselling Skills. However, for those who do not intend to continue their studies further in the field of counselling, the course can be a valuable introduction to communication skills transferable into a range of career and educational opportunities. How much will the course cost you? The cost of the course is 140 There are no concessions or fee remission on this course.
