Construction Young Apprenticeship School: 14-16 Attendance Type: Part Time Course Level: Level 2 Course Length: Two years Course Schedule: One day a week during school term time 9.00am to 3.00pm. Entry Requirements: You will need to be on target to achieving a combined score of 15 or more in your English, Maths and Science Key Stage three assessment, have a very good record regarding behaviour and motivation, and above average attendance. Academic Progression: The Young Apprenticeship programme provides an excellent springboard for a range of post-16 Level three (Advanced) opportunities including BTEC Nationals, A Levels, and Advanced Apprenticeships, with the opportunity to progress onto a Foundation Degree, or Honours Degree locally at City College Norwich, the University of East Anglia or further afield. Career Progression: Possible careers include bricklayer, carpenter and joiner, plant operator, roof slater and tiler, concrete technician, site engineer, project manager, quantity surveyor, architectural technician and many more. Full Description: As a Young Apprenticeship learner you will be required to take part in some work-related learning events outside of normal school term time. Course Description: The Young Apprenticeship (YA) programme is a challenging and exciting opportunity for able, wellmotivated 14-16 year old students with a passion to develop their understanding and skills in a sector in which they have a genuine interest or career aspiration. This YA provides a unique insight into the construction industry - one of the largest sector employers in the UK. It is very diverse and the opportunities range from self- employment private jobs to multi-million pound developments. You will learn about: ? Craft skills ? The role of technicians ? The management and supervisory planning roles ? The wide variety of opportunities and career pathways in the construction sector. The projects and assignments you will undertake are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands, and are designed to develop your skills and understanding of the construction sector on both a theoretical and practical level. The course will give you a BTEC First Diploma in Construction (equivalent to four GCSEs at grades A*-C) and 50 days of work-related learning,giving you a head start in this sector. Each YA will be delivered by City College Norwich and other partners to make use of the best specialist facilities and staff. Real work experience - personalised to each student's aspirations and interests - is integrated into the programme. You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including case studies, assignments, practical assessments and projects.
