BTEC National Diploma Horticulture 4 Units Level: 3 Location: BH Years: 1 Course Summary Individual modules of the full-time National Diploma in Horticulture can be studied part-time. The unit content will depend upon the unit being studied. The National Diploma currently comprises 18 Units including subjects such as Plant Propagation, Horticultural Design Principles and Horticultural Skills and Plant Knowledge. How will I be assessed? The course is continually assessed. All units are assessed and graded as pass, merit or distinction depending upon the grading criteria being met. The type of assessment will vary as to the outcome being assessed but may include practical skill tests, case studies, written reports and presentations. How much time will I spend on the course? This may involve 12 hours class per week for 2 terms depending upon the units being studied. How is the course delivered? There will be a mix of teaching methods including classroom- based learning, practical activities, visits and group work which will vary depending upon the unit being studied. Who is this course suitable for? The course is suitable for those who wish to study a specialist vocational unit at Level 3. This may include people working in industry or those who have a Level 2 qualification and wish to progress without taking on the commitments of a full-time course. What are mandatory modules or units? There are no mandatory units if units are studied as individual modules. What materials do I have to provide? This will depend upon the unit being studied. Advice will be provided at the time of interview. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? This will depend upon the unit being studied. Advice will be provided at the time of interview. What can I do after this course? Any of the other units from the National Diploma in Horticulture offered as part-time study. If sufficient units are studied, it may be possible to consider completing the National Diploma in Horticulture over an extended period as a flexible student. What careers would this course be useful for? There are many and varied opportunities available in horticulture. The aspect of horticulture to be considered will depend upon the unit studied. Appropriate advice can be sought at the time of interview. Entry Requirements A distinctive BTEC First Diploma performance, a pass at City and Guilds National Certificate Level 2, 4 passes at GCSE Grade C or above, preferably including English Language and 2 of which should be in Science or 1 in Mathematics and 1 in Science. A relevant NVQ2 qualification OR non-standard entry: mature learners who lack qualifications but have the academic ability and can demonstrate that they are prepared to take on the commitment required. An interview is required before enrolling onto a unit.
