Awarding Body EDEXCEL Course Content The BTEC Level 3 National Certificate is designed to equip individuals with the practical skills, knowledge and understanding required for success in current employment and for progression to future employment in a range of mechanical occupations including design, installation, operation and maintenance of complex mechanical engineering products and systems. Course Features Develops technical appreciation and knowledge of Mechanical Engineering. Develops learning and information retrieval skills. Identifies the inter-relationships between theory and practice via a good mix of theoretical and practical exercises. To develop the student's ability to communicate verbally and in writing. To develop the student's computer literacy via appropriate software packages. To enable the student's to select suitable materials, components and equipment used in the field of mechanical engineering. Career Prospects and Progression The course is a work related qualification for employment and a progression route to higher national qualifications. Additionally it is a university entry level qualification. The course is equally suitable for school leavers and mature students. Modules Year 1 Mathematics for Technicians, Engineering Materials, Drawing and CAD for Technicians, Communications, Business Systems, Science Year 2 Mechanical Principles, Project, Electro, Pneumatic, Hydraulic Systems, Engineering Design, Further Mathematics, Engineering Workplace Practices Method of Assessment The twelve units are internally assessed via tests, assignment and practical activities. The project and the communication unit are combined to form an integrated vocational assignment (IVA). Course Length 2 Years Time of Delivery Daytime Campus Graig Campus Bilingual Provision This course can be studied in English only Entry Requirements Normally 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including mathematics and Science. This can be waived for mature students who can demonstrate the necessary commitment and ability. Full-time or Part-time Part Time
