How to Apply/Enrol Application Form to be returned to Learner Services Course Outline This course provides technical knowledge and higher level skills in team leading, report writing, project management and presentation skills. It reflects the changing needs of the engineering industry. Profile 1st year Units 1-5 1. Business Management - to develop students knowledge of calculating costs associated with engineered products and services from to the fundamental concepts of project planning and scheduling. 2. Analytical Methods - to provide the fundamental analytical knowledge and techniques needed to successfully complete the core units of Higher National Engineering programmes. 3. Engineering Science - to investigate a number of scientific principles which underpin the design and operation of engineering systems. 4. Applications of Pneumatics and Hydraulics - designed to provide knowledge and understanding of fluid-power systems in modern industry. 5. Quality Assurance and Management (can be a stand alone unit) - examines the basic principles of Total Quality Management and develop an understanding of the key factors that underpin quality improvement techniques. 2nd Year - Units 6 - 10 plus continuation of Analytical Methods 6. Electrical and Electronic Principles - covers the electrical principles that students in many branches of electrical and electronic engineering need to understand. 7. Plant and Process Principles - to develop the learners understanding of the need for and the means used to ensure effective control of plant processes. 8. Project Management (can be a stand alone unit) - to provide knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, tools and techniques. 9. Managing the work of individuals (can be a stand alone unit) - to develop knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in managing the work of individuals and teams employed in the engineering industry. Opportunities Employment in all areas of industry in engineering related jobs at both technical and first line and middle management level. Successful completion of HNC would give advanced standing of the first year of most engineering degrees. Entry Requirement Appropriate previous qualifications and experience with communication and literacy skills at the appropriate level are required. A good level of maths is desirable but to help and support students the Maths unit is delivered over two College years. IT skills would be an advantage however at the end of the course and as a result of your studies you could be able to use Power Point, Word, Excel, MS Project and other useful packages. Accreditation of prior learning from other courses is possible. Independent study is an integral component and would require students to be self motivated and committed to the course If English is not your first language, you may need an English Language assessment before enrolling on this course.
