Opportunities Employment as a higher technician with a building contractor or in a number of construction related disciplines including Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying and Construction Management. The Higher National Certificate is an appropriate entry qualification to a number of construction related degree courses, some of which can be studied on a part time basis, enabling you to continue with your employment whilst studying. Entry Requirement Specific requirements - One or two suitable A levels, National Diploma/Certificate in Building Studies/Civil Engineering or Advanced GNVQ in the Built Environment. Applicants without the necessary qualifications or experience may be required to take a one year introductory course prior to enrolling on the HNC course. Applicants with alternative qualifications may be considered subject to interview. Communication skills - The ability to communicate on a one to one basis and in a group as part of a discussion. Literacy - A good understanding for the written word and an ability to extract and analyse information. Numeracy - Ability to cope with mathematical concepts equivalent to and above GCSE Mathematics. Action planning - Ability to organise time and prioritise workloads. Information Technology - A basic knowledge is required although skills will be gained throughout the course. Manual dexterity and physical stamina - You will need the ability to carryout practical work which requires manual dexterity.
