How to Apply/Enrol Application Form to be returned to Learner Services Course Outline This course gives you knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in employment in the biologically-based industry or for progression to a Degree or further professional qualification. Profile As part of this new course you will undertake a range of core and optional units. On completion of 10 units you will gain a Higher National Certificate (HNC). Core units (6): Cell Biology Biochemistry Physiology Laboratory Techniques Analysis of Scientific Information and Data Project Optional units (4) may include: Nutrition Pharmacology Environmental Analysis Ecology Laboratory Management Environmental Management & Conservation Industrial Microbiology Molecular Biology and Genetics Biodiversity Immunology Pathology Laboratory Management You will do a project (one unit) and, if appropriate, can complete a work-based assignment (one unit). By studying for a third year candidates who wish can convert their Higher National Certificate into a Higher National Diploma by taking a further six units. Additional Information Laboratory investigative work (useful, not compulsory). Supplementary laboratory sessions will be available at times arranged with the students. Entry Requirement Specific requirements - Experience of working in the science industry, relevant academic qualification and interview. Communication skills - Ability to communicate fluently (verbally and in text). Ability to work as part of a team. Literacy - A good understanding of written text and an ability to analyse information. Numeracy - Ability to cope with mathematical concepts to GCSE grade C level (level 2) and beyond. Action planning - Ability to self organise and prioritise. Information Technology - No prior knowledge required.
