Applied Chemistry (HNC) (Part Time) Higher National Certificate (HNC) (Level 4) Programme Code: SSHHN Awarding Body: EDEXCEL Related Programme Areas: HIGHER EDUCATION CHEMISTRY SCIENCE Who is the programme for? This programme is primarily for those already in employment in a relevant Science based occupation in industry, education, or research. What will I study? You will be required to study the following modules: Core Modules * Inorganic Chemistry * Organic Chemistry * Physical Chemistry * Chemical Laboratory Techniques * A Project (College based) * Analysis of Scientific Information and Data There are also a further four specialist units: * Further Inorganic Chemistry * Further Organic Chemistry * Further Physical Chemistry * Analytical Chemistry Entry to the Programme? How is it assessed? The programme is assessed continuously through individual coursework, tests, group projects, presentations and posters. Future prospects? On completion of this programme you will be well equipped to work at a professional level in a wide variety of careers including: analytical chemistry, chemical plant operation, environmental monitoring, the food industry, health and safety, materials testing, pharmaceuticals, science education, scientific research and quality control. Alternatively, you may wish to continue studying and progress to Degree level. The course also offers a progression route to the professional qualifications offered by the Royal Society of Chemistry. When will the programme start? The programme will start in September 2010 How long will it take? Attendance is by day-release, on one day per week over two academic years of which there are 36 weeks in each. Hours of attendance may be 9am - 9pm (but more typically are 9am - 6.30pm).
