What's the course about? This course provides in-service training for Anatomical Pathology Technicians (APT) and prepares candidates for The Royal Society for Public Health's certificate examination in anatomical pathology. It assesses the competence of the APT to give safe and practical assistance to the pathologist in the post-mortem room and to maintain the mortuary in a clean and efficient manner. The course covers the following: - Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology - Techniques in post-mortem examinations - Potential hazards to health and minimising/eliminating risks in the mortuary - Laws and codes of practice relating to the mortuary and legal requirements in relation to the dead - Administrative procedures and dealing correctly with visitors to the post-mortem room The assessment is made up of two parts: a Practical Assessment Record Book (PARB) (an APT Trainee will normally require up to one-two years' training in order to complete the practical tasks) and a two hour written examination both of which test knowledge and understanding of the whole syllabus. This course leads to the award of the Certificate in Anatomical Pathology Technology by The Royal Society for Public Health.
