Part Time Access to Higher Education - Health and Social Care Course Code 097331VP002 Course Title Access to Higher Education Health and Social Care Faculty Faculty of Humanities and Health School School of Humanities Start Date 14 September 2009 Venue West Suffolk College Mode of Attendance Part Time Length (Years) 2 Weeks 36 Amount ?160 Days Various Start Time 09:30 End Time 15:00 Summary This course provides a recognised route to Higher Education courses in Nursing, Midwifery, Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and other health care programmes. It may also lead to Higher Education degree courses in areas such as Health Studies, Sport Science, Social Work, Psychology and Sociology. Access to Higher Education programmes are designed to meet the needs of students who may not have had the opportunity to enter Higher Education earlier in their lives. Classes are flexibly timetabled for mature students who have the choice of attending the course either two days a week from 9.30am-3pm (Mon and Tues) for year 1 and 1 day a week for year 2. Qualifications Access to Health and Social Care awarded in conjunction with CAVA. Progression Routes Students progress to Higher Education courses as detailed above in 'Course Content'. Modules The main areas of study for the Nursing pathway are: Human Physiology, Psychology, Sociology, Social History. The main areas of study in the Health Science pathway are: Human Physiology, Applied Health Sciences (Biochemistry and Physics). The main areas of study in the Sport, Health and Exercise Pathway are Human Physiology, Applied Health Science, Psychology and Sociology of Sport and Exercise Physiology. All pathways include Study Skills, mathematics, a project and use of Information Technology. Entry Requirements Applicants should have an interest in the health and social care professions, or in some of the subject areas studied. Students may also be eligible for grant support. Access course study is of A2 Level standard, and while there are no formal entry requirements, we must ensure at interview that applicants have a good chance of success on the course, and in further study to which they aspire. Course Content NURSING PATHWAY: This is a recognised route into Higher Education courses in Nursing and Midwifery. It will also be appropriate for students wishing to study for a degree in Social Work or Psychology and Sociology. HEALTH SCIENCE PATHWAY: This is a recognised route into Higher Education courses in Radiography, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy. Also appropriate for students wishing to study for a degree in environmental or health sciences. SPORT, HEALTH and EXERCISE PATHWAY: A recognised route into Higher Education courses of Sport, Health and Exercise, Fitness Testing and other Health Fitness programmes. Returning to education can be a difficult step for adults, our staff are experienced and will help you to settle in. Students will have a personal tutor for support and guidance.
