Access to HE Diploma: Health and Social Care: Human Biology and Psychology Level: Level 3 Part-time - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.15am-3.00pm (hours may vary) How long is the coursetraining? 36 weeks What will I be doing on the coursetraining? The Access course has been designed for those adults who feel they missed out on higher education when they were younger. The programme aims to provide a firm foundation for degree or diploma level courses but is also a useful programme of study in its own right. Study skills and educational guidance form essential parts of the course. The programme consists of compulsory core units and subject options: Core Units: Preparation for Higher Education (including study skills), Information Technology, Maths, English. Subject Options: Psychology, Human Biology The course content in each option starts pre-GCSE Level and includes the core content of an A Level in each subject. The exam cost covers subject options only. Students will also have the opportunity to sit external examinations (exam costs are extra) in GCSE English and Maths. Start date: wc 21st September 2009. No formal qualifications are required but you should be highly motivated and have a sufficient level of literacy to enable you to take a year long course of study containing regular reading and written work. All students are required to do some mathematics at an equivalent level to GCSE and it is strongly recommended that you have a maths assessment prior to starting the course. You will be required to have an interview. What can I do after this coursetraining? The Access Programme can be used to prepare for a wide range of higher level courses, including HNDs and degrees. The Access Diploma is nationally recognised. What key skills will I do? None specified What residentialwork experience is there? None specified What faculty is the coursetraining in? Maths and Science How to Apply? You need to fill in an application form for this course. You will be interviewed by our teaching staff (either in a group or individually) since it's important that you understand the content and commitment to the course. Please note that this course is full for September 2009. Please apply for 2010. How do I study the coursetraining and how will I be assessed? You will be taught through a combination of lectures, individual and small group work, practical work and tutorials. Assessment is through coursework, individual project and final examination. What facilities are there? You will have access to a learning resource centre. There is a refectory in the Hele Building. What will the coursetraining cost me?
