This course is for you if: -You are interested in completing the whole A level course; AS/A2 in one year -You are an enthusiastic adult with good study skills or a student who wants to improve your grade -You are an Arts graduate wanting a Science based qualification through which to access a science based career. -You have the time and commitment to attend the course two evenings per week, plus time for home study. NB: Students enrolled at either EHWLC or another institution on a full time programme during the day will not be offered a place. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee. About the course: Chemistry is an exciting course, developed to give students a thorough understanding into the concept of today?? s changing chemical world. This is a highly recognised course by universities, because it encompasses manipulative, theoretical, numerical, ICT, and problem solving skills. -It will help you to develop skills such as accuracy and precision, objectivity, enquiry, initiative and insight. -It will help you to appreciate the contribution of chemistry to society and take an informed interest in scientific matters. -It will teach you to apply knowledge, principles and concepts from different areas of the subject -Chemistry is essential for the study of Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Chemical Engineering. It is useful for careers in research, marketing and the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and food industries. -Universities not only offer courses in Natural Sciences but also combine Chemistry with languages, Economics, Astronomy, Business Studies and Law. About the course; OCR GCE Chemistry A: The course is modular and follows the new OCR specifications which came on line September 2008. To achieve an A level award students have to complete both the AS and A2 components of the course. Both AS and A2 chemistry comprise of three units; AS course; # Unit F321: Atoms, Bonds and Groups # Unit F322: Chains, Energy and Resources # Unit F323: Practical Skills in Chemistry 1 Unit F321 and Unit F322 are assessed by written examination, in January and June. Unit F323, Practical Skills is coursework completed in class time, teacher assessed and moderated by OCR. A2 course; # Unit F324: Rings, Polymers, and Analysis # Unit F325: Equilibria, Energetics, and Elements # Unit F326: Practical Skills in Chemistry 2 Unit F324 and Unit F325 are assessed by written examination in June. Unit F326, Practical Skills is the coursework component, completed in class time, teacher assessed and moderated by OCR.
