Many learners study chemistry because they wish to study the subject at university while others do so in order to study subjects such as medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, biochemistry and pharmacy, for which A-level chemistry is essential. However Chemistry is an important subject, not just for science, but for many other types of career. Even if you have no idea what you would like to do but you are interested in chemistry you will make a good choice with A-level chemistry. What qualifications or skills will I need to have to get on the courses? At least a pass at AS Chemistry What does the course involve? The awarding body is OCR specification A H434. After studying three units in the AS year the A2 year has a further three units. The units are: Unit F324: Rings, Polymers and Analysis. This unit builds on the organic chemistry studied at AS by looking at rings, acids, amines and ploymers including the synthesis of compounds. Furher analysis work is also studies in this unit. Unit F325: Equilibria, Energetics and Elements. This unit looks at rate of reactions, equilibrium and calculation of pH. Energy involved in reactions is studied as well as the transtition elements. Unit F326: Practical skills in Chemistry 2. This A2 unit is teacher assessed and externally moderated by OCR. You are assessed on one task from each of the following categories: qualitative, quantitative and evaluative tasks. What options will be open to me if I successfully complete the course?
