Start Date: September 2010 End Date: June 2012 Venue: Coleg Powys Newtown Tutor: John Brown Who is this course for? Those individuals employed within the building trade wishing to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Those individuals wishing to gain employment within the building profession Previous knowledge required: Whilst a sound standard of secondary education is desirable, applications will be dealt with by interview and individual assessment. Motivation and interest are key requirements. Applications from mature students are welcome. What will I study? Practical Skills - Painting skills, Preparing surfaces, Storing Resources .... etc Job Knowledge and Trade Techniques How to Read, Interpret and Work from Construction drawings Calculating Trade Materials and Costings Health and Safety - Mandatory for NVQ or ICA / Diploma level 2 [tba] Additionally (if required by the programme) Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number What else will I do? Basic First Aid Health & Safety How will I be assessed? Practical & theoretical assessment along with site-generated-evidence [NVQ only] Practical tasks set in college workshop along with written assignments throughout the course What will I achieve? Depending on your entry level of skill and work experience your tutor will advise you on the most suitable programme. Course of study includes: Intermediate Construction Award / Diploma level 2 [tba] NVQ L2 Decorative Occupations What can I do afterwards? Succesful candidates may progress onto NVQ 3 Materials required: Candidates are encouraged to purchase their own set of tools, but basic tools are available for training and assessment purposes. Steel toe-capped boots are required during all practical work shop sessions Additional information about this course: Candidates should be aware that all construction trades require physical effort and work in all weathers.
