Course Description

Paediatric First Aid in Childcare Introduction This course meets the EYFS, OFSTED & SureStart requirements for those working in care settings for the under 8's and also the requirements of the NCMA for those registering as childminders. Course Content: Introduction to relevant legislation and regulations: Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Introduction to first aid: Scene safety Priorities of treatment Emergency action plans Checking the first aid kit. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Adult Child Infant. Care of the unconscious casualty, including: Primary and secondary surveys Recovery position. Recognition and basic treatment of serious medical conditions, such as: Fainting Drowning Epilepsy Diabetes Poisoning Shock Head injuries Spinal injury Hypothermia Choking. Recognition and treatment of childhood illness, such as: Febrile convulsions Meningitis Asthma Croup Anaphylaxis (including the use of an EpiPen?). Control of bleeding and bandaging techniques. Treatment of minor injuries, such as: Eye injuries Animal bites Insect stings Nose bleeds Burns and scalds Soft tissue injuries (sprains and strains). Recognition of broken bones (fractures). Reporting of accidentsincidents. Assessment Continuous assessment by the trainer throughout the course.
