OCR NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE LEVEL 1 A One Year Full-Time Programme of Study The National Certificate is suitable for people who are interested in a career in Health & Social Care. The course acts as a stepping stone to other higher level Health & Social Care courses. What Do I Need To Join This Course ? You need to have a GCSE profile at grade E. This will enable you to cope with the academic demands of the course. Evidence of interest in caring for others is also an advantage, which you may have obtained through voluntary work or work experience organised by your school. What Will I Study? You will investigate which groups of people need care, the types of staff who provide care and the different places and situations where people are cared for. The course will teach you about how people change and develop, from childhood to old age, and what you can do to keep them healthy. You will also learn about the wide range of jobs involved in looking after people, as well as how to carry out practical, caring activities necessary for people's health and well-being. The course consists of 12 units including: * Working as a team in Health & Social Care * Investigating Health and Social Care provision * Introducing practical caring * Skills for babysitting * Exploring leisure and recreational activities for service users * Dealing with minor accidents You will also study basickey skills. These subjects will give you the knowledge and skills necessary to care for people of all ages, in many different situations. How Will I Learn? Learning takes place via a range of methods including group work, class discussion, research and tutor input. Practical work experience is an essential and compulsory part of the course and you will have to undertake a minimum of 50 hours placement experience over the year. How Will I Be Assessed? You will need to complete a series of Health and Care related assignments and projects, which will show how much you have learnt, as well as how you apply this learning. Your overall mark will determine what grade you receive. What Can I Do At The End Of The Course? Successful achievement of a merit or distinction can allow progression onto higher courses, e.g. OCR Certificate in Health and Social Care Level 2. Some students decide to use their qualification to seek employment within the caring services where you could begin on Apprenticeship.
