NVQ LEVEL 2 HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE A Part-Time Programme of Study The programmes are intended to meet a range of studentlearner needs, and as such access is open to people who demonstrate a commitment to working as an effective and informed carer. The programmes are suitable for individuals working in the care setting with adults or children and young people. There are two programmes designed to meet the requirements of new or more experienced staff. All prospective candidates will have a short informal interview to ensure suitability and individual guidance will be given in relation to the award and appropriate programme. When can I join the programme? This is a rolling programme that has various start dates over the year. What will I do on the programme? The programmes are designed to provide underpinning knowledge for the NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care. They focus on the Core Units but will also be useful for Option Units. A full NVQ Level 2 Care Award comprises: * 4 core units * 2 option units Core Units: UNIT HSC21: Communicate with and complete records for individuals UNIT HSC22: Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals UNIT HSC23: Develop your own knowledge and practice UNIT HSC24: Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals The range of option units available should enable candidates to select units which most closely match their role at work. How will I be assessed? Formal assessment for the NVQ must be carried out in your workplace by accredited assessors. You will receive more details at the interview prior to the course. Please note this course provides knowledge, understanding and evidence for NVQ Level 2 Care but a full NVQ award can only be obtained through assessment in the workplace by an assessor. College assessors will be able to assess candidates or support a work based assessor.
