NVQ 3 in Agriculture (Crop Production) Who is the course for? This part-time programme is offered to who are employed in the industry on a full-time basis who wish to study part-time. The course places an emphasis on practical skills backed up with an understanding of the principles involved. It is aimed at either those who are employed on the family farm or those in employment who are new to farming. to farming. What will I study on the course? The College can assist you to find a suitable employer if needed. Whilst at work you will receive comprehensive practical training that will enable you to carry out the jobs required by your employer and achieve the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). You will be visited at the workplace by an NVQ assessor to check on your progress and to ensure that you are building evidence towards your final qualification. You will attend College one day per week to receive the underpinning knowledge for the practical tasks you learn at work. Depending on your selected NVQ option you will cover: Option 1 NVQ Livestock Production: Feeding, maintaining performance of livestock, milk production & stock tasks. Option 2 NVQ Crop Production: Establishing crops, managing their growth and harvesting. Option 3 NVQ Mixed Farming: Establishing and managing crop production, establishing and maintaining performance of livestock, using tractors and equipment. All students will cover all aspects of Health and Safety. What is special about studying at Bridgwater College? What other skills will I acquire? In addition to the NVQ you may have the opportunity to achieve: First Aid Safe Manual Handling Technical Certificate (Advanced Apprenticeship only) You will also have an opportunity to acquire a selection of other industry related additional qualifications for example, tractor driving and handling, basic stockmanship and welfare, telescopic handler and ATV. What do our students say? I wanted to learn more about the technical aspects of farming and I am very pleased with the way the programme is run. I have been able to gain a Certificate in Competence in using a rough terrain fork lift and now carry out most of this work on our farm. I would certainly recommend the programme to others.
