NVQ 2 in Horse Care Who is the course for? This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to study horse care in the work place rather than attending a full time college course. To complete the programme you will need gain a place on one of the colleges approved assessment equine centres. What will I study on the course? You will study a range of topics that will enable you to work effectively and safely with horses. The topics studied will include maintaining horse health, stable management, grassland management nutrition, health & safety, transportation and effective working relationships. Plus one optional unit from: exercising & riding horses, assist with leading a trek. The programme will be based in one of our approved yards so you will be learning in an industry based commercial environment. What other skills will I acquire? You will work effectively within a team while increasing your skills with in the equine industry. Focus will be put on health and safety aspects and maintaining working relationships with your colleagues and supervisors. What makes this course special? This is a practical horse based course which will allow you to work in the industry while training. There are no exams at the end of the programme, all assessment is practically based. You will be based at one of our approved assessment centres for NVQ, while there you will complete your assessments & training. Time will be spent building a portfolio of evidence during your classroom sessions at the yard. What do our students say? The programme allows you to work at your own pace within a commercial environment. It is a practical course and so you can see the relevance of the topics within your own workplace. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed via practical assessments while working on the yard. How long is the course? The course is one year in length. What can I do on completion of this course? Students who successfully attained Level 2 can enter the industry or progress on to the L3 programme. Alternatively you can progress on to the National Diploma in Horse Management which is a full time programme.
