Health and social care Course: NVQ 2 Health and Social Care Code: HSC0035D Duration: 18 Weeks Location: Work Place Start Date: 14th September 2009 Interview Required: Yes Who is the course for? This course offers you the chance to gain a recognised qualification relevant to your current work role. It is available to employees in either voluntary or paid employment in the health or care sector. Do I need any formal qualifications? No formal qualifications are required. Most people begin at this level using knowledge gained through past and present experiences and in-service training. What will I study on the course? Your portfolio of evidence will include a range of practice and knowledge taken from a range of units. At this level you will need to complete 6 units all of which will be relevant to your role. How is the course organised? Delivery is completely work-based. You will have an initial induction and assessment session at work and your assessor will then carry out observations and also advise you on the content of your portfolio of evidence on a regular basis at mutually convenient times. How will my progress be assessed? The programme is organised so that the practical work tasks are observed during your normal working hours either by your work assessor or a college assessor. Knowledge evidence is assessed through different methods, answering oral and written questions, preparing short assignments, case studies and reports. There are no formal examinations. Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course? There are no formal qualifications on offer while you prepare your portfolio of evidence. What final qualification will I get if I am successful? NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care. What can I do after completing this course? Your progression depends on your job role. A skills match will show whether you can progress to level 3. Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying? Financial support is available and depends on the type of qualification you are studying and whether you are a full time or a part time learner. The Education Maintainance Allowance (EMA) scheme enables eligible learners to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College, as well as bonus payments of ?100. The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) scheme enables eligible learners (aged 19 or over) to receive up to ?30 per week for studying at College. College Learner Support Funds (LSF) are available and can provide financial support for eligible learners. Payments can be made towards travel to and from College, registered childcare, fee remission and help with course-related costs.
