Course Description

To provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to carry out work to the standards required by the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (Second Edition 2002).
 

To provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to carry out work to the standards required by the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (Second Edition 2002).
 

Course Content

  • Risks associated with striking underground apparatus
  • Recognising the signs of underground services and interpreting utility plans
  • Using tools to locate underground structures
  • Marking services ready for excavation
  • An awareness of signing, lighting and guarding the workplace and the erection of temporary traffic signals
  • Methods of excavation, safety measures and the use of road drills etc. and how to support utility apparatus within the excavation
  • Selection and storage of excavated materials for re-use
  • Placing and compaction of backfill and sub-base materials
  • Laying and compaction of cold-lay bituminous materials
  • Theory and Practical Assessments

Entry Requirements

This course is for those delegates who supervise those who reinstate roadways in line with the 2nd Edition Specification for reinstatement of openings in the Highway and the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (NRSWA), revised 2002 Code of Practice.

This course is for those delegates who supervise those who reinstate roadways in line with the 2nd Edition Specification for reinstatement of openings in the Highway and the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (NRSWA), revised 2002 Code of Practice.

Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a certificate from City And Guilds, Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industry (CABWI) or Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) dependent opun location of course.

This certificate is valid for 5 years.
