Course information: NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Prevention and Control of Infection Course summary: The qualification has been written to be relevant to a wide range of environments and is ideal for learners who wish to gain an understanding of the causes of infection and how these can be managed and controlled. The qualification is designed for those who wish to develop their knowledge of infection control. It is suitable for those who wish to access this training with a view to progression towards further qualifications or for those who wish to study this programme in order to complement other programmes. Course content: The course consists of three units covering: ? ? Unit 01 The principles of infection prevention and control ? ? Unit 02 Causes and spread of infection ? ? Unit 03 Cleaning, decontamination and waste management Course aims ? ? familiarise you with infection control legislation and policies ? ? develop your understanding of the causes of infections, the conditions in which they thrive and the ways that they can be spread ? ? develop your understanding of the methods of cleaning and waste disposal that help prevent the spread of infection ? ? introduce you to the hand washing techniques and personal protective equipment you should use to help prevent the spread of infection. Course structure: The course consists of three units covering: ? ? Unit 01 The principles of infection prevention and control ? ? Unit 02 Causes and spread of infection ? ? Unit 03 Cleaning, decontamination and waste management Assessment procedure: Candidates will be provided with course materials for the programme. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practise their skills and test their learning. Candidates work through the learning materials and complete assessments for each unit. Learning activities and assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience. On successful completion of the 3 units a certificate will be awarded. Tutor Support Each candidate will have access to a tutor who will support them throughout the programme. Your tutor will agree a schedule of work with you that suit your particular circumstances. Typically the programme can be completed in 12-20 weeks. You will be entitled to receive a minimum of 5 hours of 1:1 support throughout the programme. You will be able to contact your tutor andor college for help, support and guidance at any stage of the course. Your tutor will provide you with detailed feedback on your work. Entry requirements: Infection control means we are not completely at the mercy of infections and the diseases that infections cause because we can take certain actions to prevent and control them. The more we learn about infection ?? what it is and how it occurs ?? the more we know how to avoid it, overcome it, and minimise its spread. This course is designed for those who wish to develop their knowledge of infection control. Qualifications achieved: Certificate in Prevention and Control Infection Control. The qualification is accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body ?? NCFE. Progression opportunities: After successfully completing this qualification, you may like to go on to further study in qualifications such as: ? ? Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Healthcare andor Health and Social Care ? ? Level 2 NVQs in Health ? ? Level 2 NVQs in Health and Social Care ? ? Level 2 NVQs in Cleaning and Support Services ? ? Level 2 NVQs in Food Preparation Free study and financial support: Many part-time students at South Tyneside College do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, depending on the course and the number of hours a week you study, you may be eligible for an Adult Learners
