WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? The course is designed for anyone who is interested in Uniformed Public Service and who wants to gain a qualification that can help them progress onto the BTEC 1st Diploma full time course within the public service area of the college. You will find the course stimulating as it combines classroom based study with outdoor activity and group work. WHAT WILL I LEARN? A better understanding and knowledge of the skills that is required for entry into Uniformed Public Service Sector. The emphasis on the course is not aimed at recruiting you into any one service, but to educate you in the many career opportunities available. Investigate Employment Opportunities in Uniformed Services Well being and Physical Fitness Develop Team Working Skills Carry out Essential Map Reading and Navigation Participate in Adventurous Outdoor Activities Self discipline and development Health, Safety and Emergency Care HOW WILL I LEARN? The course is both academic and vocational. This means that you will be asked to complete portfolio assignments (academic) and that you will be given the opportunity to experience various public service disciplines (vocational). Both elements of the course are equally important and you will need to demonstrate commitment, flexibility, a positive attitude and the ability to work independently and within a team in order to reach your goal. Your learning, supported by an experienced team, will consist of a balanced programme of task based learning and practical hands on activities. You will be required to take part in outdoor activities involving map reading, expeditions, overnight camping and canoeing. There will be visits by various public services to the college and trips to observe public services in their own environment. WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO? ?- The BTEC 1st Diploma in Public Services (subject to entry criteria). ?- Employment prospects in the Public Service of your choice. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION It is important for you to understand that public services qualifications require a high degree of personal commitment and self-discipline. Whatever you hope to gain from your time with us in terms of career development, personal development, social life and sports activities, the one objective that we all have within the public service team is a desire for you to succeed. There will be a material cost of ?110 for this course to cover uniform and curriculum trips.: You need to have an appropriate level of health, physical fitness and be prepared to take part in challenging outdoor activities. The academic requirements are 4 GCSE at grade E-G or successful completion of AwardCertificate in Employability and Personal Development at entry level 3, and functional skills English at entry level 3. All applicants who meet the above criteria will be invited to attend an interview day which will consist of a briefing about the college and the public service courses layout, computer screening skills check, physical activities including a 1.5 mile run, interview and the requirementsequipment that is needed for you to complete the public service courses.
