National Diploma in Medical Science (Level 3) SP030 This is a full time course Qualification Awarding Body: Edexcel/BTEC Award: National Diploma in Medical Science Course Content There are 18 units in the course. These will introduce you to the work of a laboratory technician, how to run and manage a laboratory and the ICT used for this. You will study scientific principles, methods and techniques including physiology and electrical circuits. In a medical laboratory, certain aspects of physics, chemistry and biology are all used. So, for example, you will learn about the physics used in the radiology and radiotherapy departments, the microbiology needed to diagnose infectious diseases and how to make chemicals. Who is the Course for? This is a course for students who would like to work in a laboratory which specialises in medical work. This could include veterinary laboratories as well as those in hospitals and in private organisations which supply services to the National Health Service. Assessment All eighteen of the units are assessed by assignments which are internally set and marked with external moderation being conducted by the awarding body EDEXCEL. You will be completing nine assignments in each year of the two year course. Possible Progression The course is equivalent to three A-levels and will allow you to move into employment or to apply for higher education if you achieve appropriate grades.
