National Diploma in Applied Sciences (Laboratory and Industrial Sciences) Level 3 2008/2009 Programme Code: ss3Li Awarding Body: BTEC Related Programme Areas: science LABORATORY diploma Who is the programme for? Those wishing to pursue a career as a science technician, or other careers in the scientific area. It is suitable for those who already have a BTEC First in a related subject, or four GCSEs at C or above, preferably including science and maths. What will I study? Students will study a total of 18 units over 2 years. These consist of 6 core units and a range of speacialist units. Core Units: *Fundamentals of science *Scientific practical techniques *Perceptions of science *Scientific investigations *Mathematics Specialist Units: *Physiology of human body systems *Biochemical techniques *Chemical laboratory techniques *Genetics and genetic engineering *Microbiological techniques *Practical chemical analysis *Industrial applications of chemical reactions *Chemical Periodicity Entry to the Programme? How is it assessed? assessments are continuous by a range of methods including assignments, evidence portfolios, projects, case studies, practical exercises and examinations. Future prospects? On successful completion of this programme students will be qualified to work in a range of science based careers such as materials testing, quality control, product development, microbiology, analytical chemistry. The programme also allows for progression onto Higher Education including Higher National programmes anf degree level science programme such as our HNC in Science (chemistry) and Foundation Degree in Applied Microbiology. When will the programme start? September How long will it take? 3 years with full time attendance, approximately 3 days per week. What about the Money? if you are under 19 on 31 August 2008 you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees. If you are over 19 years of age How do I apply?
