Course Description

Management, Enterprise & Innovation AIMS The programme is designed to enable graduates from any background to acquire the knowledge, skill and professional network which will enable them to become outstanding managers in growing businesses and, when they identify the right opportunity, to become change agents andor entrepreneurs. Accounting & Finance For Managers ? Provides an understanding of accounting information and financial reporting and introduces key aspects of financial analysis and enable students to undertake: interpretation of accounts ratio analysis and user-group specific tools, e.g. Z scores and credit ratings accounting information and the stock market forecasting and valuation. Operations Management ? Introducing the core concepts in the management of operations producing products and services. These include the management of capacity and inventory, production planning and control, project management and the management and improvement of quality. Business Economics ? Equips students with the basic knowledge of business economics and to examine the ways in which the economic theory may be applied to solve real business problems. The module focuses mainly on those aspects of economics vital to a student of business, such as the market mechanism, monopoly and international competition policy and the business implications of resource allocation, inflation, economic growth, economic policy, international trade, economic integration and exchange rates. Business Strategy & Organisation ? Drawing mainly on microeconomics theories and applications in order to introduce students to theories, concepts and techniques of analysis that are close to many typical business situations. Second Semester Research Methods - The course will introduce students to notable issues within the management studies research process. The aim is to enable students to develop an understanding of the purpose of research, constructing a literature review, issues relating to accessing and constructing good quality data and data analysis. The module will also nurture the skills and competencies required to construct a dissertation proposal, conduct academic research, and write, edit and revise a dissertation. Business Enterprise Development - This course will provide students with a knowledge and understanding of business development. It looks at issues which can affect smaller businesses from the start-up stages through growth. A combination of case studies, group activities and lectures will be used to enhance understanding. Business Innovation and Change - The course will examine relationships of management, innovation and change. It also explores the dynamics of innovation and impact upon the strategic development and business operations. The course will illustrate different approaches to innovation and different strategies that can be adopted to manage innovation within and cross organisations and business networks. Understanding Organizational Change - The course aims to accomplish a greater understanding of the dynamic and complex processes associated with organizational change. The course has a particular focus on the human dimensions to change and the contemporary experience of people at work. The course seeks to deal with conceptual and practical issues and to discuss and debate the link between academic learning and business practice. Final Stage MSc candidates write a dissertation on a subject of their choice, developed from subjects introduced during the programme. Dissertations are supervised by members of the teaching team, all of whom are undertaking research into aspects of change and innovation management.
