Course Description

The purpose of this course is to develop and consolidate your understanding of the scientific methods that are routinely employed in Psychology. Emphasis is placed on training you in the efficient gathering and organising of information as well as the critical evaluation of theory and qualitative and quantitative evidence. You will be given practical experience of working in an active researcher's laboratory and you will also design and carry out a substantial research project under the supervision of a different member of academic staff. You will be given the opportunity to present and discuss your findings in written, oral and poster formats in a supportive and cohesive environment. Our aim is to significantly improve your prospect for employment in a wide range of contexts where insight into human behaviour andor rigorous evaluation of information are key elements of good decision making. Course content: Research Foundations Qualitative Methods Advanced Quantitative Methods Plus two Advanced Module choices, typically from: Science and Psychology Decision Making Cognitive Neuroscience Vision in the Real World Eye Movements and Cognition Majorities and Minorities Group Processes and Social Identity Research Practicum Research Dissertation
