Course Description

This programme aims to prepare students to evaluate, use and carry out educational research in a critical and self-critial manner. Students are encouraged to develop analytical skills appropriate to study at postgraduate level in relation to the different philosophical underpinnings of different research approaches and of educational research, in particular. It supports the acquisition of cognitive, practical and transferable skills that are appropriate for postgraduate study and elevant to educational research and practice in the UK and overseas, and enables the development of knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for employment as an educational researcher or as a practitioner researcher employed in education. The MSc programme is available as a stand-alone qualification which concentrates on more general issues relating to research methodology and data analysis, or may be taken in conjunction with a pathway that enables some research specialism. A pathway enables the student to specialize in a particular area of research that is currently active in the School of Education. The pathways that are currently available are in Mathematics Education and in Equity and Inclusion, however additional pathways are likely to be included in the future. There are, therefore, currently three different MSc Educational Research qualifications you can study for: MSc Educational Research MSc Educational Research (with mathematics education) MSc Educational Research (with equity and inclusion)
