Course Description

The MSc in Human Resource Management is specifically designed for those with little or no work experience since graduation and who plan a professional or managerial career in the field of human resource management. The programme aims to provide a rigorous postgraduate business and management education, leading to the award of a Masters degree and it enables you to achieve Graduate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development is the professional body for personnel development practitioners in the UK. The University is an Accredited Centre, which means that it is empowered to award its own internally assessed MSc programme, which gives full exemption from the CIPD?s professional education route to membership. This means that students who successfully complete the MSc programme will be admitted to Graduate membership of the CIPD. This will enable you to pursue a professional career in human resources management both in the UK and worldwide. This intensive 12 month programme will help you become an effective professional or manager working in a human resource management context. You will learn to apply the latest thinking on human resource management to the analysis of key problems being experienced by a wide range of businesses and organisations, and to possess a thorough understanding of people management and development, organisational behaviour development, leadership and management, international HRM, learning and development, employee relations, people resourcing, business strategy and information management. You will also develop the research and professional skills to tackle human resource management problems and issues, and undertake your own postgraduate research work into a topic within the field of human resource management that is relevant to your area of interest or future career plans. During two semesters, you will be able to gain a thorough grounding in the key aspects of human resource management. In semester 1, you will learn about: - People Management and Development - Organisational Behaviour and Development - Managing Information - Research Methods In semester 2, you will learn about: - Employee Relations - People Resourcing - Learning and Development - International HRM - Leadership and Management - Strategy and Business Context Finally, during semesters 2 and 3, you have the opportunity to complete a Masters dissertation which will involve you in planning and implementing a research study on an approved topic within the area of human resource management. This provides an ideal opportunity to personalise your study programme reflecting your own interests and career aspirations.
