Course Description

The MSc Construction Law & Dispute Resolution programme at King's College London is a course designed to enable practising lawyers, engineers, architects, surveyors, project managers and other relevant professionals to gain expertise in a range of studies centring on construction law and dispute resolution. It aims to give students an international framework for the understanding of the legal side of construction and considers in particular the prevalence of disputes in construction and methods for avoiding or resolving them. It also seeks to test students' ability to apply their knowledge of construction law and to facilitate dialogue between lawyers and construction professionals. The only one of its kind in Central London and the largest and longest-established MSc in this field, the master's programme at King's is the core activity of the Centre of Construction Law & Dispute Resolution. An important aspect of the Centre, as well as the MSc programme itself, is its international character and interdisciplinary approach. Staff and students are drawn from all sides of the construction industry as well as all regions of the world, providing an excellent teaching and learning environment The MSc seeks to provide an academically rigorous and challenging programme which gives students from a legal background the necessary basic understanding of construction technology and students from a non-legal background the necessary basic understanding of the law, looking at areas such as critically analysing the prosesses of construction and project procurement and making students fully aware of the general law affecting construction and the aims and techniques of the law. The Centre for Construction Law & Dispute Resolution maintains strong links with other bodies in the field, both in the UK and aboad, including university departments in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malibu and Melbourne. The programme attracts applications from all sides of the construction industry and its professions, including lawyers (barristers and solicitors), engineers, architects, surveyors and other related professionals, as well as those with dual qualifications in a range of fields. Although most students live or work in and around Greater London, many travel from further afield to take part in the programme Brunei, Cyprus, Egypt, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nigeria, Peru, St Lucia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Trinidad and Turkey.
