Course Description

The MSc Computing: Information Engineering aims to provide advanced skills in Computing, providing graduates with career opportunities at the cutting-edge of the industry. Designed for graduates with a first degree in Computing or a strongly-related discipline, the course provides advanced technical skills in the areas of Data Mining, eCommerce and Distributed Systems. These themes are supported by a vibrant research community within the School, providing a rich environment for advanced study. The course also includes a practically-focussed Network Management theme, reflecting the strong demand from industry for graduates with hands-on skills in this area. The networking modules are taught by CISCO-accredited trainers in a purpose-built networking lab. The module content covers Semesters 1 to 4 of CISCO's Training Academy and will fully prepare students for CISCO accreditati The MSc Computing: Information Engineering with Network Management and Industrial Placement course is an option open to students who successfully complete semester 1 and 2 of the MSc Computing: Information Engineering with Network Management course. Transfer to the Industrial Placement course is dependent on a selection procedure based on academic performance, an interview and a suitable matching with a company. Successful students undertake a placement in industry up to a period of one year.
