Course Description

This programme offers a firm grounding in how to apply social psychology to a broad range of settings. The course will help you gain a competitive edge by studying at one of the leading Psychology departments in the UK. It is designed to equip students with a thorough grasp of Applied Social Psychology, as well as an array of analytical, methodological, and statistical research skills. These skills will be useful for pursuing further academic research, such as a PhD, but many skills are transferable and will also add value in non-academic environments. The programme is taught by a dynamic group of world-class psychologists, with a wide range of expertise. Our friendly and supportive staff offer high quality supervision and teaching. Seven modules provide systematic coverage of topical issues and the latest research in Social Psychology in a wide range of applied settings. Modules are taught with an emphasis on group discussions and the development of independent thought and analysis. The research project offers students the opportunity to carry out an independent piece of research, in an area of interest to them. The programme starts in September and will run for one year (full-time) or two years (part-time). The Psychology Department at Royal Holloway is one of the top departments in the UK. The quality of the Department?s research and teaching has recently been commended ? it was awarded a grade 5 in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise and obtained 24 out of 24 points in the latest teaching quality assessment. There is a dynamic research community, including foremost researchers in a variety of fields and an active population of postgraduate students and post-doctoral scientists. The Department is one of the best equipped Psychology departments in the country.
