There is currently much interest in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in the industrial and commercial sectors. Theoretical and practical knowledge of AI programming techniques, such as evolutionary computation (genetic algorithms, genetic programming) and neural networks, are now widely sought after by programmers and researchers working in leading-edge organisations. To reflect this, the MSc in Applied Artificial Intelligence will equip you with the skills and knowledge to stay at the forefront of this rapidly developing area. It is designed to give you the latest knowledge and computational skills in the areas of machine learning and intelligent discovery methods. The MSc Applied Artificial Intelligence also provides the opportunity to learn more about the application of AI techniques to commercial and industrial problems, especially in areas in which the School has research expertise. It is designed both for recent graduates and working professionals, such as software designers, who want to enhance their knowledge with the latest developments in applied artificial intelligence. Instead, each taught module has its own within-module assignments and tests that contribute 66 per cent to the overall degree, with 33 per cent of your marks coming from the research project.
