Course Description

Pharmacists have always been recognised as the drugs experts. They have detailed knowledge of how to ensure that each individual patient receives the safest and most effective drug treatment. The Master of Pharmacy degree is a four year, science based programme and is an essential qualification on the route to becoming a registered UK pharmacist. In the programme you will learn how new drugs are discovered, how drugs produce their effects and how they are manufactured. There is also a very strong clinical strand in the programme where you will learn how to examine and interact with patients and learn to manage the whole process of ensuring that the right patients get the right medicines. The Liverpool degree pays particular attention to ensuring that you know how to use all your scientific knowledge to optimise patients? drug treatment. Once you have obtained your MPharm qualification, you will normally spend a ?Pre-registration? year working under close supervision as a pharmacist. Once you have demonstrated your practical competence and taken a professional examination you will be able to join the register. There is a wide range of professionally fulfilling and very well paid posts available. Pharmacists work in High Street and supermarket pharmacies, in hospitals, in health centres and in the drugs industry. The MPharm degree also provides a sound scientific training, so if you eventually decide that you do not wish to become a pharmacist, you will be perfectly well placed to compete with any other science graduate.
