Course Description

Candidates will receive practical and theoretical training in all aspects of motor vehicle engineering. Assessment of practical ability is carried out in the college workshops during the course. Assessment of technical knowledge is carried via on-line examination. Units include in this course are: V1 Contribute to Workplace Good Housekeeping To complete this unit you will need to produce evidence of cleaning the part of the work area for which you are responsible, and produce evidence of undertaking basic, routine checks of all the following types of tools and equipment: 1. Hand 2. Electrical 3. Mechanical 4. Pneumatic 5. Hydraulic A tutor or will set and observe a practical assessment task, which has been designed to cover the performance V2 Ensure your Own actions Reduce Risks To Health Safety To complete this unit you must: Identify risks which may result from at least 2 of the items listed below: 1. The use and maintenance of machinery or equipment 2. The use of materials or substances 3. Working practices which do not conform to laid down policies 4. Unsafe behaviour 5. Accidental breakages and spillages 6. Environmental factors. Produce evidence of following at least 2 of the workplace policies listed below: 1. The use of safe working methods and equipment 2. The safe use of hazardous substances 3. Smoking, eating, drinking and drugs 4. What to do in the event of an emergency 5. Personal presentation. A tutor or will set and observe a practical assessment task, which has been designed to cover the performance objective V3 Maintain Positive Working Relationships To complete this unit you must: Gather witness testimony from your work colleagues and supervisor and/or manager and/or instructor/lecturer that you have worked well with others and met the performance objectives for this unit. V14 Carry Out Routine Vehicle Maintenance To complete this unit you must: Carry out one major service. A tutor or will set and observe a practical assessment task, which has been designed to cover the performance objective. V15 Remove and Replace Engine Units and Components To complete this unit you must carry out the following on at least one occasion 1. The removal and replacement of engine mechanical units and components A tutor or will set and observe a practical assessment task, which has been designed to cover the performance objective. V16 Remove and Replace auxiliary Electrical Units and Components. To complete this unit you must; remove and replace auxiliary electrical components from 3 of the 8 systems listed below. 1. Lighting 2. Wiper Systems 3. Security and Alarm systems 4. Comfort and convenience systems 5. Audio devices 6. Communication systems 7. Electric Window systems 8. Monitoring and information systems A tutor or will set and observe practical assessment tasks, which have been designed to cover the performance objective. V17 Remove and Replace Vehicle Chassis Units and Components To complete this unit you must; remove and replace units and components from each of the following systems: 1. Steering 2. Suspension 3. Braking A tutor or will set and observe practical assessment tasks, which have been designed to cover the performance objective. V27 Remove and Replace Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Units and Components. To complete this unit you must: Produce evidence of removing and replacing three transmission and driveline components. A tutor or will set and observe a practical assessment task, which has been designed to cover the performance objective.
