This course has grown out of a recognition that there is a surge of interest in midfulness based approaches. It will give therapists and counsellors a taste of what is involved in this approach both experientially and theoretically. Links will be made between two differrent traditions that seek to address human distress and suffering. What topics will we cover? Mindfulness practices Exploring the relevance of mindfulness based approaches to psychotherapy and counselling Experiencing some mindfulness practices Introduction to mindfulness based approaches and underlying theory Exploring relevance of mindfulness both personally and professionally Application of mindfulness in one to one settings The underlying attitudinal approach in the mindfulness approache. By the end of this course you should be able to: Participate in mindfulness practices Demonstrate an understaning of the relevance of minfullness based approaches in psychotherapy and counselling Demonstrate an understanding of underlying theories Identify the personal and professional relevance of mindfulness based approaches Describe the potential application of mindfulness in one to one therapy situations. What level is the course and do I need any particular skills? This course is for qualified therapistcounsellors You will be able to listen to others and express yourself fluently in English. You will be able to reflect on your learning both individually in group discussions. How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class? Both tutors have established personal mindfulness practices and both have taught the Mindfulness Based Cognitive TherapyMindfulness Based Stress Reduction programmes. This will be a highly experiential course. You will participate in mindfulness practices led by the tutors. There will be addititonal teaching of theory as well as pair work and small and whole group discussion. Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring? There are no additional costs. Please wear comfrotable clothing for the course. Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol? No. What feedback will I get? You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. How will I be able to give my views on the course? Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
