MATHEMATICS Foundation Level 1 course One year Progression 1 year GCSE Maths or GCSE Use of Maths Exam board Certificate of Adult Numeracy Edexcel Key Skills Application of Number Edexcel Progression Exam Internal 5 periods a week Course outline This year is split into 3 parts: Certificate of Adult Numeracy (Level 1) A gentle reintroduction to mathematics covering all the basics including: rounding, percentages, ractions, area, perimeter, ratio etc. Dont worry if you cant remember any of your maths from school as this course will begin at the beginning! Key Skills Application of Number (Level 1) Key Skills and the Certificate of Adult Numeracy run concurrently. The main focus for Key Skills is the two pieces of coursework. On topics of your choice you will be required to redesign a room and to conduct a survey of your peers. Progression module This module will build on what you already know and will cover topics to best prepare you for the 1-year GCSE. Topics include algebra, geometry, polygons, construction and bearings. You will need a grade D for this module to guarantee progression. Teaching styles Along with traditional lessons, you will be encouraged to learn from each other as well as the eacher. Activities will be completed individually, in pairs and in groups. Lessons will include a ombination of practical and theory activities. Assessment Certificate of Adult Numeracy (Level 1) - Multiple choice exam Key Skills Application of Number (Level 1) - Multiple choice exam + coursework Progression module - Exam (2 hours) Resources and facilities A minimum of one lesson a week will be spent exploring and expanding your maths knowledge using computers. You will be provided with a folder and workbook to accompany your course. You will need to bring, to each lesson, paper, a pen, a geometry set and a scientific calculator. Entry requirements GCSE Mathematics - Grade E/F or Certificate of Adult Numeracy - Entry Level 3. As part of a level 1 programme a minimum of 5 grade Es at GCSE, or equivalent, including English Language. (For year 2 information see Maths GCSE I year course information)
