Course Description

This course encourages you to develop your understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence and fosters enjoyment. It develops your abilities to reason logically and recognise incorrect reasoning as well as to extend your range of mathematical skills and techniques and use them in more difficult, unstructured problems. First year core topics include algebra, co-ordinate geometry, sequences and series, an introduction to calculus and an introduction to exponentials and logarithms. Your second year of study builds on topics studied during the first year to increase understanding and also introduces new topics such as vectors. A statistics module will also be covered each year, this will include topics such as probability distributions, correlation and regression and hypothesis testing. This is a valuable, well recognised qualification for future life as it shows you have problem solving skills and logical ordered thinking. On completion you can progress to a mathematics related degree course. A Level Maths is a necessary qualification to study physics or engineering at university. Mathematics is also valuable to those going on to study sociology, sciences, psychology, business studies, economics and geography.

Entry Requirements

Grade B in maths at the higher tier is mandatory and a Grade C in English as well as at least 3 other GCSEs at Grade C or above.
