Mandatory units for all pathways (all three units must be taken) Unit 1: Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organisational Safety Requirements Unit 2: Using and Interpreting Engineering Data and Documentation Unit 3: Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering Pathways: Mould and Core Making Must complete any two units from the following: Unit 4: Producing Sand Moulds Manually Unit 5: Producing Sand Cores Manually Unit 6: Producing Sand Moulds or Cores with Mechanical Assistance Unit 7: Producing Sand Moulds or Cores Automatically Unit 8: Producing Ceramic Moulds or Cores Unit 9: Producing Shell Moulds for Investment Casting Unit 10: Preparing Materials for Moulding and Coremaking Unit 11: Assembling, Core Setting and Closing Sand / Ceramic Moulds Unit 12: Assembling and Preparing Investment Shells for Casting Melting and Casting Metal Must complete any two units from the following: Unit 13: Melting Metal for Casting Unit 14: Casting Metal by Manual Means Unit 15: Casting Metal using Mechanical Means Unit 16: Preparing Furnace and Ladle Linings for Melting and Pouring Metal Unit 17: Controlling and Treating Molten Metal in Readiness for Casting Unit 18: Producing Metallic Castings using the Gravity Die Process Unit 19: Producing Metallic Castings using Pressure Die Processes Fettling and Finishing Must complete one unit from the following: Unit 20: Knocking out and De-Coring Metallic Castings Unit 21: Cleaning Metallic Castings Manually Unit 22: Cleaning Metallic Castings by Blasting Unit 23: Fettling Metallic Castings Unit 24: Repairing and Reclaiming Metallic Castings Plus one more unit from the following: Unit 25: Inspecting Metallic Castings Visually Unit 26: Checking Castings for Dimensional Accuracy Applying Coatings and Coverings Must complete one unit from the following: Unit 27: Applying Liquid Coatings by Dipping Unit 28: Applying Liquid Coatings by Spray Methods Unit 29: Applying Coatings by Electrophoretic or Autophoretic Methods Unit 30: Applying Powder Coatings Unit 31: Applying Hot Dip Treatments Unit 32: Carrying Out Electroplating Operations Unit 33: Carrying Out Electroless Nickel Plating Operations Unit 34: Applying Coatings by Chemical Conversion Processes Unit 35: Carrying Out Sulphuric Acid Anodising Operations Unit 36: Carrying Out Chromic Acid Anodising Operations Unit 37: Applying Finishes by Hard Anodising Unit 38: Carrying Out Mechanical Plating Operations Unit 39: Carrying Out Chemical or Electro-Chemical Polishing Operations Unit 40: Applying Physical or Chemical Vapour Deposition Processes Unit 41: Applying Alloy Plating Processes Unit 42: Carrying Out Finishing by Phosphating Methods Unit 43: Carrying Out Zinc Plating Operations Unit 44: Carrying Out Zinc-Rich Coating Operations Unit 45: Carrying Out Nickel and Chromium Plating Operations Unit 46: Carrying Out Hard Chromium Plating Operations Unit 47: Carrying Out Mechanical Polishing Operations Unit 48: Carrying Out the Application of Transfers, Decals and Livery Unit 49: Carrying Out Thermal Spraying Operations Composite Manufacture Must complete two of the following units: Unit 50: Making Composite Mouldings using Wet Lay-up Techniques Unit 51: Carrying Out Pre-Preg Laminating Techniques Unit 52: Carrying Out Acrylic Moulding Activities Unit 53: Carrying Out Vacuum Forming of Composite Materials Unit 54: Carrying Out Trimming of Composite Mouldings using Hand Tools Unit 55: Checking Composite Mouldings for Defects Unit 56: Carrying Out Repairs to Composite Mouldings Unit 57: Carrying Out Bonding Activities on Composite Mouldings Unit 58: Carrying Out Composite Assembly Activities Unit 59: Carrying Out Surface Finishing Activities on Composite Mouldings Injection Moulding Must complete the following unit: Unit 60: Operating Plastic Injection Moulding Machines
