The result was an entirely new concept in postgraduate training, strongly supported by EPSRC: a one-year course for elite graduates designed to provide the experience and skills necessary for leading-edge research in industry or academia. The scheme has enjoyed widespread support from industry and EPSRC and has gained national commendations such as the Queens Anniversary Prize (1998) and an ?excellent? rating in Teaching Quality Assessment. The degree programme consists of taught training modules (approximately one-third) and a major collaborative research component (approximately two-thirds). The taught modules comprise specialist technical knowledge of direct relevance to the power generation and aerospace industries, generic research techniques including business and management skills, and personal professional development courses. The major research project is carried out in collaboration with an industrial partner, and recent sponsors have included various blue-chip companies such as Rolls Royce, Airbus, RWEnpower and Cogent. The strong industrial support and commitment is also evident from the composition of the Steering Committee, which includes senior company representatives who control the programme and ensure that the industrial relevance of the degree scheme is maintained. FUNDING: UKEU Students: The University has available 100 Masters Bursaries worth ?2,700 each towards fees for new UKEU students commencing Masters studies this September. Bursaries are available in every School and are available for full and part-time study.
