You will be able to make judgements with regard to operational and strategic issues confronting the industry, and to critically assess managerial problems and implement strategies to resolve them. The interdisciplinary nature of the subject is reflected in the study programme you draw on knowledge from leisure, hospitality, geography, human resource management and marketing. To assist in your future career, assessment tasks require you to apply issues covered on the programme within an industrial or organisational setting. As a student on the course, you will be entitled to student membership of a range of professional bodies including the Tourism Management Institute, Institute of Travel and Tourism, the Tourism Society, Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management, and Tourism Concern. You will also have access to a new scheme entitled Masters+. One of the first postgraduate initiatives of its kind, Masters+ incorporates a set of skills workshops designed to develop the career potential of postgraduates. The workshops are practical and industry driven, and offer students the chance to acquire additional skills which would typically lie beyond the scope of a Masters course. Following successful participation in a Masters+ workshop, you will gain a certificate of attendance and resources to support your learning. For more information visit www.wlv.ac.ukmastersplus.
