Course Description

MA Scenography [Dance] aims to produce multi-skilled designers who embrace all aspects of the visual presentation of a work. The programme adopts a scenographic approach which considers design as a multi-disciplinary practice addressing the entire visual image presented in a performance, and allows for the education and training of the whole designer. The unique focus on dance will enable you to draw inspiration from stimuli provided by the body in space as revealed by light. You will be encouraged to establish a creative dialogue with the choreographer from the earliest stages of a project, creating work where design is integral rather than decorative. Practical design work throughout the programme is supported by lectures and seminars in areas of related theory, enabling you to critically reflect upon your own practice and that of other designers. The taught element of the programme consists of the following modules: ? Repertory dance and end stage performance ? Site specificcollaborative dance performance ? New technologies and multimedia performance ? Methods of practice ? Portfolio project You may, however, choose to concentrate on a particular design element ? e.g. costume, lighting, or set design ? through which to develop a scenographic approach.
