Course Description

he MA International Education offers teachers, lecturers and educational leaders in schools, colleges and universities a unique opportunity to reflect upon their own practice and to enhance their knowledge. The general aims of the course are to: Enhance understanding of contemporary educational issues in primary, secondary and post-compulsory education in international contexts Develop participants? ability to reflect critically on theory in the area of teaching and learning and use it as the basis for understanding and improving practice Develop participants? ability to undertake small scale research Give training in the use of qualitative and quantitative research methods in educational contexts Develop students? transferable skills and their application in educational and related areas Equip students with the research skills appropriate for transfer to advanced social research at doctoral level. The Course and its Assessment This degree has four taught modules, worth 30 credits each, two of which are core modules delivered in the Autumn Term of each academic year, two of which are specialist pathway modules, delivered in the Spring Term of each academic year. The dissertation is taken in the Summer Term and has a different structure from the other four modules. All taught modules consist of 30 hours of taught, face-to-face seminars and workshops, an hour?s worth of individual student tutorial time, and directed private study time of 194 hours. The dissertation is worth 60 credits and is expected to take up to 450 hours of independent study. The course is continually assessed through a number of written assignments and presentations, as well as a dissertation at the end of the programme. An assignment of 5000 words or equivalent (sometimes with an oral presentation) is completed for each module, enabling students to develop their academic interests and a dissertation in the field of Education. There are no exams.
