Course Description

Durham's MA in Socio-Cultural Anthropology provides advanced subject coverage and thorough research training for those whose first degree is not Anthropology. Students are introduced to both classical and contemporary writing and research in the discipline. There is equal emphasis on theoretical and methodological questions, and plenty of opportunity to apply this new knowledge to issues of pressing social concern. Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas in discussion with academic staff and peers. The course aims to develop critical, analytical, interpretive, integrative and presentation skills and to provide an opportunity to pursue original research undertaken under expert supervision.
