Course Description

The course encourages and cultivates innovative creative practice in a range of performance disciplines (dance, drama, music and performance) alongside the promotion of high quality scholarship. The course is taught by an energetic research-active team with a broad range of expertise, and includes scholars, practitioners and established researchers with international reputations. Through a series of taught modules students will interrogate their own practice within a theoretical framework. The MA culminates with a major project or dissertation. The major project could be presented in a range of forms such as: performance, installation, video, interactive environment, sound composition. The Performance Arts programme is ideal if you are looking for an MA that fosters the cultivation and development of your own creative practice within an innovative, contemporary research environment. The course appeals to a broad range of performance backgrounds within the disciplines of drama, dance and music, and includes the interrogation of such areas as performance, site-specific performance, installation-work, sonic-art and composition, the audio-visual, and a diversity of interactive performance. There is significant scope for independent research enabling you to deepen your creative work within specialist areas of study whilst benefiting from the cross-fertilization that occurs in multi-disciplinary frameworks.
