MA Health & Wellbeing (Incorporating PgDip, PgCert) NB: This course is delivered totally online. The MA in Health & Wellbeing is a new and innovative programme of study, which has been developed to meet the changing needs of healthcare and social care professionals in the 21st century. Level MA (Masters Programme) SCQF level 11 Duration and Mode Each individual module is taught over 15 weeks (a semester). There are two intakes in each academic year. The next intakes are semester 1 which starts in September 2010 and semester 2 which starts in February 2011. NB: This course is delivered totally online. Description The MA in Health & Wellbeing is a new and innovative programme of study, which has been developed to meet the changing needs of healthcare and social care professionals in the 21st century. Aims of the course The MA Health and Wellbeing is a new and innovative programme of study, which has been developed to meet the changing needs of health care and social care professionals in the 21st century. The programme aims to: Provide contemporary postgraduate opportunities for inter-professional education for practitioners in a variety of settings including urban, rural and remote. Provide opportunities for practitioners to engage in current debates and policy developments including partnership working between healthcare and social care and with the consumers of health services in order to promote the wellbeing of individuals groups and communities. To develop a critical understanding of the challenges and changes faced by practitioners in the context of service delivery and improvement. To develop critical and reflective practitioners with skills to apply evidence based theories in their clinical practice. Course Contents Year 1 (Pg Cert) Policy into Practice - core Option Individual and Social Influences on Health - core Policy into Practice - core Qualification gained at this point: Pg Cert Health & Wellbeing Year 2 (Pg Dip) Developing Research Capability - core Challenges and Practice Solutions in Remote & Rural Areas - core Risk, Ethics and Governance - core Option Quafication gained at this point: Pg Dip Health & Wellbeing Year 3 (MA) Dissertation Qualification gained at this point: MA Health & Wellbeing Optional modules for may be chosen from the following: Child & Adolescent Mental Health Developing Communities Diabetes Disability and Society Enabling Self Management, Facilitating Change Epidemiology Informatics in Health & Social Care Introduction to Intermediate Care Leading Change and Innovation Effectively Leading & Leadership: A Personal Focus Managing Service Improvement & Diversity Mentoring Self Management & Anticipatory Care Progression The MA Health and Wellbeing may allow those NHS staff currently on NHS KSF bands 5 and 6 to progress up the NHS Career Framework Ladder to bands 7 and 8. The course may also allow those in the social service workforce to focus attention on gaining skills and knowledge as highlighted in the report Changing Lives in order to increase professionalisation and the subsequent links to promotion and pay. Campus Stornoway UHIMI Partner Requirement The standard entry requirements to the programme are normally an honours degree at level 2.1 and not less than 2.2, or a postgraduate diploma award or a professional qualification recognised as being equivalent to an honours degree from a UK awarding body.. Other qualifications andor experience which demonstrate an appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard may be acceptable and RPL andor APCL may be claimed.
