Course Description

The MA Design at Kingston aims to explore and debate contemporary and future issues affecting the design, development and realisation of artefacts and spaces. The course examines the premise that design does not occur in isolation but is informed by a variety of cultural, philosophical, environmental, economic, political and historical influences. Students enrol for a pathway award in either Product Design or Spatial Design and navigate the course through a structure of practical design projects. These commence within an interdisciplinary context by investigating processes and themes shared between the pathways before engaging with areas of specialism within each separate pathway context. Specialisms are guided by specialist practitioners and engage with live industry issues. The spirit of innovation and enterprise is sought throughout. Talented undergraduates or practitioners with an instinct for design enquiry are encouraged to apply. Assessment: Practical design projects, presentations (written submissions), masters project and exhbition.
