Course Description The BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Computing & Systems Development follows the Level 4 HNC Diploma in Computing & Systems Development and provides greater breadth and speacialistion. This course will allow progression into (or within) employment in the Computing & IT sectors, either upon completion or following further study at degree level. As a student at the college you ll have access to more than 700 PCs and Macs on campus, be given your own email address, have fast internet access and your own dedicated network space that is available to you day and night, on and off campus. How long is the course and when will it start?: This is a full-time, two year course starting in September. If you are already taking your Level 4 HNC Diploma in Computing & Systems Development at Redbridge College, you will automatically be considered to join the second year of the Level 5 HND Diploma in Computing & Systems Development. What are the entry requirements?: You will need to have one of the following (subject to change): A BTEC Level 3 qualification in IT, as well as GCSE grades at A* to C or Level 2 equivalent in English and maths An A-Level which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one A-Level subject (you may need to support your application with GCSE grades at A* to C) Be able to demonstrate related work experience Mature students without formal qualifications will also be considered You will need to have the following if you want to enrol onto the second year of the Level 5 HND: A BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Computing & Systems Development GCSE grades at A* to C or Level 2 equivalent in English and maths Be able to demonstrate related work experience What will I study?: HNC (minimum of 120 credits) studying the following units: - Computer Systems - Business Skills for e-Commerce - Employability and Professional Development - Website Design - Systems Analysis & Design - Database Design Concepts - Event Driven Programming Solutions - Networking Technologies HND (minimum of 240 credits) studying units like: - Digital Image Creation & Development - Programming in .NET - LAN Technologies - Project Design, Implementation & Evaluation - 3D Computer Modelling & Animation How will I be taught and assessed?: You will be taught by our highly skilled team of staff who will pass on their years of industry knowledge and experience to you. You will be assessed by a mixture of assignments, observations and practical assessments. Equipment and resources: It is recommended that you have paper, pens, calculator and a memory stick to transport your work from home to college. You will be notified of any course books that may enhance your learning by your tutors. You will also need to have access to a computer/laptop to complete work at home. Progression and career opportunities: On successful completion of this course you will be able to apply to university to complete your final year. Alternatively, you will be able to enter employment within an IT-related industry.
