Health & Social Care (Double Applied A Level) Course Outline AS Level Unit 1: Promoting Quality Care - the study of equal opportunities legislation and services. Unit 2: Communications in Care settings - considers theories and interactions with service users. Unit 3: Promoting Good Health - studies perspectives in health and well being. Unit 6: Working in Early Years Care and Education - investigates the range of care and education provision for children in early years settings (0-8 years). Unit 5: Caring for People with Additional Needs - focuses on examining additional needs and how these needs can be met in a variety of Health & social Care organisations. Unit 9: Caring for Older People - considers the physical effects of aging on the body systems. AS Level Unit 10: Care Practice and Provision - the study of services and multi-disciplining teams. Unit 12: Anatomy and Physiology - students will study the human body and the effects of ill health. Unit 15: Social Trends - develops students skills in analysing demographic data to understand social trends that will affect the family and individuals Unit 13: Child Development - considers factors influencing the development of children. Unit 14: Mental Health issues - understanding the concepts of mental health. Unit 16: Research Methods in Health and Social Care - the study of the purposes and methods of different types of research. Assessment Coursework (75%) Examination (25%) Examining Board - OCR. This 12 unit qualification is the equivalent of two full A levels. For the double award grades are awarded AA-EE. Prohibited Options None. Career and Progression Opportunities These qualifications are recognised by universities and employers in a wide range of different disciplines. Other Information Work experience is an integral part of the course in order to implement the theories. This takes place at a set time in the timetable and as such students need to be available at this time. This information is correct for Septemner 2010 entry.
