Horticulture Level 3 Diploma in Workbased Horticulture Myerscough reference: 09A3HRTMYW01P Course Length: Work-based delivery undertaken over a 18- 24month period at Learners workplace About the Course The course covers a range of horticultural skills and related practices. The main objective of the course is to ensure the development of practical skills and related background knowledge Fees Learners may be eligible for funding towards the cost of training subject to certain eligibility criteria being met. Please contact the College for further details. List of Units The Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture is offered in the following pathways: ? Horticulture ? Sports Turf - Greenkeeping ? Sports Turf - Groundsman ? Landscaping ? Parks, gardens and green space ? Production horticulture There are three Mandatory Units common to all Pathways : (worth 17credits) ? Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security ? Estimate and programme resource requirements for landscaping ? Manage your own resources Other Mandatory Units may be required dependent upon the pathway chosen. Optional Units The Learner also selects from a wide range of Optional Units with various credit values. Example of the Units available include: ? Establish planted areas ? Plan the maintenace, repair and renovation of sports turf areas ? Install hard landscape features and structures ? Prepare for and maintain the palnting of crops or plants ? Installing drainage systems ? Plan and emplement seed propagation A minimum of 57 credits required for the achievement of the Level 3 Diploma Industrial / Work Experience All Learners are required to be in vocation related placement for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Possible Careers / Jobs Gardener, landscaper, grounds maintenance worker Additional Qualifications Learners studying for the Diploma as part of the Apprenticeship Framework also undertake the following: ? Knowledge based element - units of the Diploma in work based horticulture assessed using independent methods (GOLA - Global On-line Assessment) ? Transferable skills - either Key Skills Application of Number level 2; Communication level 2; ICT Level 1 or Functional Skills Maths level 1; English level 2 ; ICT level 1 ? Additional Employer requirements: Emergency First Aid (one day course approved by HSE)* Plus one other legislative or nationally recognised occupational test appropriate to the pathway chosen (e.g. NPTC Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Pesticides) *Where a certificate has an expiry date, it must be current at the time of completion of the Apprenticeship. Special Requirements The suitability of work placement providers for Learners is subject to a health and safety appraisal. This is reviewed regularly by Myerscough college
